Who Am I?

My name is Desiree and if you’ve made it here, I want to start off by saying thank you. Writing has been an important part of my life from a young age. It’s part of my identity and its one of my biggest passions.

It was in the fourth grade, when I won an award for Creative Writing, that I first got a sense that I was really good at something. From then on, I continued to write and what didn’t appear on paper, would be expressed through playing make-believe with friends, performing in front of family members, and even roleplaying online.

My inspiration comes from a variety of sources: literature, music, art, movies, photography, and life experiences. My own work, no matter where it is derived from, is always personal. I believe that my strongest pieces have come from a deep, emotional space. If there is no heart in it, it is not worth writing down.

Yet, though I always knew that I wanted to be a writer, I’m no stranger to self-doubt nor the dreaded writer’s block. At times, my work comes far between. Even so, when the muse does grace me with her presence, I squeeze as much out of her as possible.

As I got older, wiser, and was able to put myself through school again, another dream of mine was cemented. In an age of technology and mass media, literature is a dying breed. I want to help reignite the passion for it by becoming a teacher. This leads me to pursue my Master’s degree and later obtain my credentials. As I continue my academic journey, I will continue to write.

I have no dreams of grandeur or to be famous but I do hope for my work to reach as many people as possible.

Thank you for reading.
